The Federal Government Boys College, Abuja, Wuye Campus, has emphasised the importance of unity in diversity, respect, and recognition for all cultures in Nigeria.
The Principal of the college, Mr Magaji Zachariah, made the call at the school’s cultural day celebration in Abuja on Thursday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event showcased cultural performances, traditional attires, and food, promoting cultural awareness among students.
Zachariah noted that the school, as a unity college, was a microcosm of Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage.
He emphasised that unity was a deliberate choice that must be made every day, and it was the bedrock on which Nigeria was built.
Zachariah urged students to carry forward the message of unity and peace, reminding them that they were all Nigerians united in purpose and pride.
Ms Obiageli Ezeilo, Assistant Director and Coordinator for the Cultural Day Celebration, highlighted the importance of culture to the young generation.
She noted that it helped in identity formation, language preservation, and providing a sense of belonging.
Other speakers, including Ms Angelina Madueke, a retired Director of the Federal Ministry of Education, and Mazi Okpara Kingsley, the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairman, emphasised the need to teach culture and language to children.(NAN)(www.nanews.ng)
