Cricket: Team Nigeria departs for Kwibuka Women’s tourney

Team Nigeria is set to depart for the 11th edition of the Kwibuka T20 Women’s Cricket tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.
The team, comprising of 14 players and six officials will depart the country on Sunday evening from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos enroute Kigali.
This will be Nigeria’s fifth appearance in the tournament, with their best outing in 2024, finishing fourth place among eight teams.
Coach of the team, Leke Oyede, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the team was optimistic of a better outing this time around.
“We have had series of trainings especially as members of the team took part in the just concluded National Sports Festival.
“Although three key members of the squad; Piety Lucky, Peculiar Agboya and Victory Igbenedion could not make it due to academic commitments, however we have a very balanced squad and ready to go.
“This time, we will do our best to ensure a better outing than the previous performances,” he said.
A total of nine teams will be featuring in the tournament which is played in remembrance of the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
