The Board of Trustees (BoT), Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), has called on Nigerians to support security agencies with intelligent information in the fight against insecurity.
The BoT made the appeal in a communiqué issued after its meeting in Abuja on Wednesday and signed by the Board Chairman, Mr Odunayo Ategbero.
Ategbero, appreciating the efforts by the security agencies in combatting insecurity in Nigeria, said there was need for citizens’ support to win the battle.
“ALGON National appreciates the security developments so far in the country.
“We appreciate some steps taken and successes recorded through both procurement of some critical equipment, manpower development and interagency collaboration.
“Between the Army, Navy, Air Force, the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service and others.
“The BoT of ALGON wish to add that success in winning the war on banditry, kidnapping, insurgents, herder’s crisis, killings, armed robbery and so on should remain consistent until every nooks and crannies of villages, councils, LGAs and states are free from such vices.
“The BoT hereby call on Nigerians to continue to cooperate with the security agencies in intelligent gathering to guarantee effective synergy for maximum results,” Ategbero said.
The BoT Chairman said that the board also discussed issues of the National Anti-Multiple Taxation Scheme (NAMTAXS) and the National Transit Insurance Scheme (NATIS).
He said that the BoT and National Executive Council (NEC) of the association unanimously agreed that the eradication of illegal road blocks, illegal multiple taxes, levies, fees, assaults, molestations and sometimes untimely death on Nigerian roads must come to an end.
He maintained that such must come to an end through the enforcement of extant laws as contained in the 4th Schedule of the 1999 Constitution and in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s Economic Sustainability Programme (ESP).
Ategbero also disclosed that the ALGON Board members at the meeting unanimously passed a Vote of Confidence in the leadership of the association’s National President, Mr Kolade Alabi.
He said that the motion was moved by the Niger ALGON Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Bosso, and seconded by Mr Victor Ebonka, the Delta ALGON Chairman.
He said that the board applauded the leadership of Alabi for the civility, unity and peace in the association.
“As conscience of the association, the BoT is in total support for the present leadership of Alabi.
“We urge Nigerians not to be distracted by lies and falsehood of few fifth columnists that do not mean well for the Association.”
Ategbero added that the ALGON Chairman Kogi, Mr Taofik Isa, was removed as the ALGON Legal Adviser and replaced by the Delta ALGON chairman (Ebonka).
The meeting, according to him, was physically attended by a few BoT members while others joined virtually. (NAN)
