Rep. Samuel Onuigbo (APC-Abia) has said that a bill for an act for the mainstreaming of climate change action that would give it a legal framework is awaiting concurrence at the Senate.

Onuigbo, who sponsored the bill, said this while briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja,

He said that the bill would get President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent this time around having sorted out the grey areas that led to its rejection by the during the 8th senate.

Onuigbo said that the objective of the bill was to ensure that Nigeria had a legal framework that would help coordinate her efforts at Climate Change mitigation and adaptation.

“I am happy that on July 6, during the Committee of the Whole at the House of Representatives, our report was considered and adopted.”

He said that the bill was passed by the House and would now be transmitted to the Senate for concurrence.

Onuigbo said that the lawmakers were aware of the danger of climate change, adding that this motivated him to sponsor the bill in the 8th Assembly.

He said that as an important arm of Government, it was the duty of the Legislators to make laws that would help the executive realise its goals and promises to the people.
