Nigerian singer, songwriter and rapper, Divine Ikubor a.k.a   Rema has urged his fans to regard his sound as ‘Afrorave’.

Nigerian singer, songwriter and rapper, Divine Ikubor a.k.a   Rema has urged his fans to regard his sound as ‘Afrorave’.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that AfroRave is an African alternative music genre, created from a fusion of left field bass/techno, drum and bass and vernacular rap.
The superstar took to his Twitter page on Saturday @heisrema to announce it to his fans.
He tweeted, “My sound you all called Indian, everybody doing it now.
“From this day my sound will be called “Afrorave” a sub-genre of Afrobeat, my album seals this claim for good.
Ikubor started his singing and rapping during his days in
secondary school.
In 2019, he signed a record deal with Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records.
The singer  rose to prominence with the release of the song “Iron Man” which appeared on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist.
In 2018, Ikubor posted a viral freestyle on Instagram to D’Prince ‘s track “Gucci Gang” which attracted the attention of
D’Prince who flew him to Lagos to offer a record deal.
He later released his eponymous debut EP Rema in 2019 and it was peaked at
number 1 on Apple Music Nigeria.
The super star was nominated for Viewer’s Choice at the 13th edition of The Headies in 2019 and received the Soundcity MVP Awards for best new artist in 2020.
The same year, he was also nominated as Best Viewers Choice: International Act on the 2020 BET Awards.
 He was nominated on the awards alongside Burna Boy and Wizkid and they were the only Nigerian Artistes nominated for the awards.
D’Prince later introduced him to his brother, Don Jazzy and he was announced the latest addition to Mavin Records where he was referred to as the future of Afrobeats.
