The Rotary Club of Abuja, Gwarinpa, says it will evolve sensitisation programme on how to discourage students against bullying attitudes.

At a one-day peace building and conflict prevention seminar for students in Gwarinpa Estate Junior Secondary School, FCT, the club said that the advocacy would imbibe good morals and values in the lives of the students.   a

The seminar entitled: “Catching them young” was organised by Rotary Club of Abuja, Gwarinpa and Rotary Club of Abuja Gwarinpa Newage for students of  Gwarinpa Estate Junior Secondary School from JSS 1 to JSS 3.

President of the Rotary Club of Abuja, Gwarinpa, Constance Okeke, said that the seminar was organised to inculcate values in the lives of the students.

“This event is in line with one of Rotary International areas of focus, which is promoting peace building and conflict prevention.

“So, we highlight the importance of peace and harmonious living in the leaders of tomorrow,” she said.

The guest speaker, Olajumoke Ekeinde, added that the club would continue to promote peace in schools by encouraging a “No bullying policy”.

Ekeinde, who is also the Assistant Governor, District 9125 of the club, noted that sensitising the students from their young age would bring about peaceful co-existence in the country.

“We are sensitising students to avoid engaging in violence act of any kind both within and outside the school premises and we want them to learn how to say sorry when necessary.

“Students are encouraged to report to their teachers or high authority when they are being bullied instead of taking matters in to their hands,” she said.

Hajiya Zainab Hassan, the principal of the school, appreciated the clubs for organising the seminar and providing for the welfare of the students.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event also featured a joint presentation of scholarship awards to 25 students sponsored by both clubs and the assistant governor of District 9125.

NAN also reports that certificates of participation was awarded to all students in attendance.(NAN)
