The Nigerian female cricket team lost by eight wickets to Namibia in their first game at the ongoing Kwibuka T20 tournament in Rwanda.

The game at the Gahanga International Stadium in Kigali saw the Nigerian side winning the toss and electing to bat.

However, the bowling prowess of the Southern African side humbled them as they were limited to 52 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.

Player of the match, Victoria Hamunyela, and Sylvia Shihepo were instrumental to Nigeria’s woes as they took out four and two wickets respectively.

The 23rd International Cricket Council (ICC)-ranked team came in to bat in the second innings.

The team proved why they lie ahead of their West African counterparts —- in 41st position—- with their score of 56 runs, two wickets out in 9.2 overs.

Many thanks to Juriene Diergaardt who had 26 runs in 27 balls faced —— comprising of four boundary hits as well as Adri Van Der Merwe’s 13 runs in 15 balls.

Joy Efosa’s attempt to limit the Southern Africans’ great run by taking out two wickets was not enough to stop Namibia from claiming victory.

The side captained by Samantha Agazuma will take on 22nd-ranked Kenya in their second group B game on Tuesday.

The five-nation tournament began on Sunday and will end on June 16. (NAN)
