Mr Mansur Sambo, Managing Director, Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), has commended the Ologbo Community of Edo, for the harmonious relationship between the company and them.
Sambo gave the commendation during his tour of the new 200 million cubic litre capacity Oredo Integrated Gas Handling Facility (IGHF) located in the community on Monday.
His visit was preparatory to the inauguration of the plant by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sambo noted that host communities constituted obstacles to oil companies in the past, but added that the situation had changed over time.
“Since we came here, we have never had any problem with our host communities. We live very harmoniously with our communities.
“We fulfil our obligations to the communities before they asked for them. All the network of roads in the community, including the one that brought us to the flow station, was constructed by NPDC.
“You can see that the station is in the middle of an oil palm plantation, which means we have a harmonious relationship with community as other economic activities are going on here,’’ he said.
Sambo however appealed to the host communities to continue to be hospitable to the company, stressing that the presence of the facility would boost economic activities in the area.
On gas flaring, he said NPDC had drastically reduced the percentage of gas it flared to the required minimum level, noting that gas flaring was a necessary activity in oil processing.
He said, “without the flare the plant will not breathe, it is just like the air we human beings breathe,’’ he added. (NAN)
