As the world commemorates the 2021 International Youth Day (IYD), Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi has challenged youths to proffer innovative indigenous solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
Bello, who gave the charge in a statement made available by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Onogwu Muhammed, on Thursday noted that young innovative thinkers would be the ones to lead the next generation.
The governor also said that young innovative individuals would fill leadership space in areas of economy, politics, finance and other spheres in the next generation.
“In line with this year’s theme: ‘Transforming food system: Youth innovation for human and planetary health’, youths as a matter of urgency, must get involved in agricultural ventures.
“While respective governments provide the enabling environment and innovative means to ensure productivity.
“Rising concerns of food insecurity in the country is largely because there were largely subsistence farming practices over modernised ways while many youths remained focused on other ventures other than agriculture
“Youths remain critical stakeholders at ensuring a healthy environment, and as a nation, the youths should realise their roles in nation building. Hence the continued clamour for power shift to the younger generation,’’ Bello stated.
The governor noted that his administration is promoting youth participation in governance and leadership because of its belief in the youths’ ability to bring drastic and desired changes in the nation.
Congratulating youths across the country on this year’s celebration, Bello expressed optimism that subsequent years’ celebration would enlist more youths in positions of impact. (NAN)
