NAF Football Club on Sunday in Abuja beat EFCC FC 3-1 on penalty kicks to win the 2021 FCT Men’s Aiteo Cup Competition.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match played at the Area 3 pitch saw both teams fighting hard but failing to convert their goalscoring chances.
The match ended goalless and the penalty kicks shootout rule was immediately applied to determine the winners.
Speaking after the match, the coach of NAF FC, Yakubu Sambo, said he was happy winning the FCT Aiteo Cup.
“I feel great and I have been hoping for this opportunity to come. This is not the first time we are representing FCT in the national Cup competition.
“We promise our fans that we will not disappoint them. We are going to make FCT proud at the national competition,.
“We know that we are going to meet giant teams in the national competition, but we will fight well to win our games,” the coach said.
The coach of EFCC FC, Kabiru Adeyemi, on his part said it was unfortunate that they lost the final match.
“We fought hard in the competition but we were unable to score our penalty kicks during the shootout.
“I however congratulate NAF FC, for winning the Cup and I wish them all the best in the national competition,” he said.
NAN reports that NAF FC will represent FCT at the 2021 national Aiteo Cup Competition.
NAN reports also that a total of 16 teams registered for the 2021 FCT Aiteo Cup Competition which began on Wednesday and ended on Sunday.
The winners of the national competition will represent Nigeria in the 2021/2021 CAF Confederation Cup competition next season. (NAN)
