Nasarawa Government has expressed willingness to partner the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to enable the agency to effectively deliver on its mandate for the development of the state and the country.

Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State stated this on Thursday in Lafia, while playing host to the management of the agency led by its Managing Director, Mr Buki Ponle.

Sule, who underscored the role played by the agency on information dissemination, assured of his administration’s readiness to support the agency.

“My administration will partner the agency on anything that will add value to us and the society at large. We will play our role,” he said.

The governor appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the renaming of the NAN headquarters complex in Abuja after the agency’s late chairman, Wada Maida, to immortalise him.

He described the late Maida, a former Managing Director of NAN, as a man of honour who deserved to be so honoured even in death.

”I will be the happiest person to be there at the renaming of NAN Headquarters after him, Insha Allah, I will be there, ” the governor said.

The governor also congratulated Ponle on his appointment by President Buhari as the MD of the Agency.

Earlier, Ponle said that the visit was to formally invite the governor as a Special Guest of Honour to the renaming ceremony of the NAN House Headquarters to Wada Maida House.

”This is in honour of your friend, iconic journalist as well as former Editor-in-Chief and Managing Director of NAN, Malam Wada Maida, following the approval to that effect by President Muhammadu Buhari.

”Sir, the programme is scheduled for Sept.16, 2021. Also expected are some of your colleague governors, all of whom are determined to honour the memory of this great Nigerian by their presence.

“We will be glad to receive you in audience as your esteemed presence will no doubt add colour to the event,” he said.

Ponle also used the opportunity to invite the governor to the agency’s flagship interview programme, NANForum.

”This is a high level platform for governors, ministers, head of diplomatic missions as well as chief executive of Ministries, Departments and Agencies among others to speak to a global audience about their achievements and challenges in running their states or institutions,” he said.

The MD expressed gratitude to Nasarawa State Government for the huge support it has been giving to the agency.

“We recall that the state government had donated a parcel of land in a choice location for us to build our state office.

”We also recall that your administration not only renovated our current office building, your Excellency also graciously paid one year rent among other forms of support.

”For all of these, the management of NAN remains eternally grateful,” he said.

The MD assured the governor that the Agency would continue to publicise his laudable achievements and programmes in the state. ((NAN)
