Nigeria’s Habu Gumel was on Tuesday in Cairo re-elected Treasurer-General of Association of National Olympic Committee of Africa (ANOCA).
Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), defeated his opponent, Deladem Akpaki from Togo by a landslide of 43 to 10 at the association’s General Assembly in Egypt.
The President of ANOCA, Mustapha Berraf, was also re-elected.
The Algerian defeated Mrs Lydia Nsekera of Burundi by 38 to 15.
The Secretary General, Ahmed Hashim of Sudan also retained his position by defeating Seydina Omar from Senegal by 29 to 24.
Olabanji Oladapo, Secretary General of NOC who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) from Cairo said that re-election of the officers was affirmation of their popularity.
”The result shows an affirmation of popularity by members of Africa NOCs.
”Fifty three National Olympic Committees (NOCs) voted at the election,” Oladapo said.
Gumel was first elected ANOCA’s treasurer in 2009. (NAN)
