The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Judiciary, Mr Onofiok Luke, has called on Nigerian youths to stay focused and united irrespective of ethnic background in order to promote peace and national unity.
Luke made the call at a ceremony by the Akwa Ibom Community to inaugurate its 15th Executive Council/Induction Ceremony of Trustees and Patrons in Abuja on Saturday.
Represented by retired Gen. Efiok Ibokette, Luke, who spoke on the sideline of the event in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the youth of Akwa Ibom would make tremendous progress through unity of purpose.
The lawmaker, who was honoured with Epitome of Philanthropy Award at the event said the award was a sign of appreciation and support given him in terms of empowerment.
Luke, who is the member representing Etinan, Nsit Ibom and Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency of Akwaibom, pledged adequate support toward youth empowerment for their progress.
He was honoured alongside the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom, Mr Moses Ekpo, whose award was for Exemplary Leadership.
The Chairman of the occasion, Mr Ekpo Nta, who is Chairman, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, had remarked that Akwa Ibom State was not just a geographical expression.
“It is a definition of a people who have been specially blessed by God,’’ Nta said.
Mr Aniefiok Ibah, the newly-inducted president of the Community said he was committed to achieving peace and development in the community and the state both now and beyond.
He promised among others that his tenure would grant scholarships to Akwa Ibom residents in Abuja as well begin the construction of the Ibom Bowl Ultra Modern Complex.(NAN)
