Sen. Kabir Barkiya (APC-Katsina) has distributed food items to members of his constituency to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 lockdown.
Barkiya, who distributed the items to the beneficiaries in Katsina urged the people to abide by safety instructions given by the health officials to prevent the spread of the virus.
The senator also urged other wealthy individuals in the society to emulate the gesture by making similar donations to the people in this period of hardship.
He advised governments at all levels to strive hard to ensure that Nigeria became free from COVID-19.
“It is only when we stay at home that the pandemic can be controlled as it can be easily spread among the people,” he said.
Barkiya warned that COVID-19 was real and that the only way out was for people to take precautionary measures against it spread.
“I will appeal to our people to respect all the guidelines issued by relevant authorities as COVID-19 is not a respecter of anyone.
“No matter how highly placed you are, you should do as we have been directed to do,’’ he said.
He pray to Almighty Allah to save Nigeria from the pandemic.
Items the senator distributed includes over 6,000 bags of rice, cartons of cooking oil, bale of brocade and wrappers.
