Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency says it has trained 6,800 health workers for mass Yellow fever immunisation exercise across the 19 local government areas.

The exercise expected to last 10 days is slated for Jan.18 to Jan. 27.

Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, Chairman of the agency, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Bauchi.

“Bauchi State Government, with the support of World Health Organisation (WHO), have trained 6,800 health workers for mass Yellow fever immunisation exercise.

“The exercise will be carried out in places such as the Emir’s palaces, market places, schools and other fixed posts.

“The agency has vaccine for seven million people, while the estimated population of people in Bauchi State is 7.5 million, this is a challenge,’’ Mohammed said.

He said that the state government had approved N36 million, while United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) supported the exercise with N150 million for logistics of over six thousands workers.

The chairman said that the vaccine was supplied to the state by the Federal Government.

Mohammed said the immunisation exercise is expected to prevent outbreak of the disease in the state, urging the public to make themselves available for the mass immunisation. (NAN)
