The Bayelsa House of Assembly said in Yenagoa on Tuesday that there were no plans to impeach Gov. Douye Diri.
“The 6th Assembly has no reason to impeach the governor; we have never contemplated that before,’’ the House Committee Chairman on Information, Hon Tari Porri (PDP-Ekeremor Constituency 1), told a news conference.
He described the claim as a rumour and a distraction.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Porri was reacting to reports that the Assembly was at dispute with the Executive over the disbursement of N38 billion refunds from the Federal Government.
He told a news conference that it was the second time such alleged impeachment plot against the governor was making the rounds.
“The 6th Assembly under Speaker Abraham Ingobere has shown it does not know what those behind the alleged plot are talking about.
“We strongly believe that those peddling such rumour never meant well for our dear state.
“Under the leadership of Ingobere, we have never thought of such for a man who has started executing most of his promises to the people,’’ Porri said.
He condemned peddlers of such rumour and stressed that the Bayelsa Assembly had always worked with the governor to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Bayelsa.
The House Committee chairman said the 19 PDP members and the five APC members in the House work in synergy with the governor and the leadership of the Bayelsa Assembly. (NAN)
