The National Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, has solicited support for police personnel, to enable them to adequately fight crimes and criminality in the country.
Olaniya made the call while donating Ramadam relief materials to Muslim personnel after Juma’at prayer at the Police Force Headquarters Mosque in Abuja.
The Senior special Adviser to the PCRC Chairman on Media, Mr Kunle Sodipo, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
He said the police deserved all the needed support to enable them to perform their policing duty effectively to make the society crime free.
As part of its activities in ensuring adequate support for the Nigeria Police in executing its constitutional mandate, the committee paid courtesy visits to the Inspector General of Police, Police Service Commission and Police Officers Wives Association (POWA).
The committee also donated some items to the PSC’s leadership, to help cushion the hardship encountered by the Muslim personnel during Ramadan.
The PCRC chairman said the committee was in the commission to congratulate him on his appointment and to let him know that they were vigorously building on the legacies he established as the 18th Inspector General of Police.
He said that PCRC currently had offices outside the country, such as Canada and United Kingdom.
PCRC is a community policing based organisation, established by the leadership of Nigeria Police Force in 1984, to foster a partnership between the Police and the community with a view to enhancing efficient and effective policing of communities in Nigeria.
PCRC is 39 years old on May 8. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
