2nd Cycling Lagos: Gov. Sanwo-Olu to lead celebrity race category- organisers

The organisers of the 2nd Cycling Lagos, on Monday, said that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu would lead the scores of celebrity for the race scheduled for October 2023.

The organisers of the the 2nd Cycling Lagos, Bamidele Adeleye, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the news conference to herald the 2023 edition.

NAN reports that the maiden Cycling Lagos, held in 2018, attracted no fewer than 1,000 cyclists from within and outside Nigeria.

The theme of the 2nd Cycling Lagos is `Greener Ride’.

About the 2nd edition of Cycling Lagos, the Chief Executive Officer, BrandEscort Communications, organisers of the Cycling Lagos 2023, Bamidele Adeleye, noted that the competition would attract more celebrities and personalities who were expected to grace the epic occasion.

“We have lined up improved attractions to the 2nd Cycling Lagos after the pleasant maiden edition experience. We now have more people in the celebrity race and more awareness for the competition.

“We have a unique feature for the 2023 edition and we are pleased to have invited Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, to grace the occasion.

“We are in touch because we want to use the opportunity to present to the world the immense benefits of cycling in 21st century.

“We have many other professionals and celebrities that have keyed into this noble idea we are promoting for the 2023 edition which is, `Greener Ride’; mainly for the environmental benefits of cycling.

“Cycling as a means of transportation is cost effective and also it reduces the poisonous emissions from the mode of transportation that uses fossil fuels,” he said.

The Director of Sports Development, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Moses Kolawole, told NAN that the state would always be glad to a partner on projects that would be beneficial to human nature, especially sports.

“This is part of the developmental plan of the Lagos State; as we know that our governor is known as Mr Sports, this type of event catches his attention.

“Any sport that will put Lagos State in the front burner of leading states in human capacity development, Lagos State government will stand out to support such.

“This competition is such that our young ones are also given opportunity to showcase their talents and we are happy to be part of it.

“We, as a commission,  (LSSC) is more determined to give all our attention to the growth of sports in the state especially grassroots development,” he said.

NAN reports that the 2nd Cycling Lagos will ride off with the children’s edition expected to be held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Oct. 21.

The 2023 edition is opened to five categories of participants, including professionals, celebrities, children, corporate/veterans and amateurs.

The organisers said that the Greener Ride edition of Cycling Lagos is aimed at promoting a lifestyle that is environmentally friendly.
