Anniversary: Ride-hailing coy commits to reshaping transport landscape
By Adebola Adegoke
Ride-hailing service, inDrive, says it is committed to reshaping the transport landscape by improving its services for customers through transparency and fairness.
Mr Oladimeji Timothy, Business Development Representative for inDrive in Nigeria, stated this during a media parley on Thursday in Lagos.
The event was to celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary and five-year journey in Nigeria.
Timothy said that the company’s commitment was based on its business model of challenging injustice by providing affordable prices for services delivered.
According to him, inDrive thrives on its unique solutions where drivers and customers are given the opportunity to negotiate the transport fare, while drivers are offered low commission rate of 9.9 per cent.
“As a passenger, you know the price of the fare at the start of the trip based on the agreement made with the driver and you’re not limited to one option on the application.
“As a driver, you are sure that the ride is favourable for you before you accept the ride.
“At the start of our story, we called the drivers ‘inDrivers’ which means independent drivers but we rebranded in 2022 to ‘inDrive’ to give people the opportunity to pursue their inner drive with our solutions,” he said.
He urged customers to utilise the app’s feedback feature to report any issues with their ride, such as situations where a driver demands extra payment after a trip.
“Your input is invaluable in shaping the solutions we offer.
“We take measures against drivers who violate the rules, and passengers also have a responsibility to behave appropriately, as drivers also have the option to report any issues they encounter.
“So we embedded transparency and fairness into our application with these features.
“The idea is to create an enabling environment to ensure that drivers are happy to deliver services and the customers get satisfaction,” he said.
He added that the company in addition to ride-hailing service was expanding to provide intercity, courier and freight services.
He said the company had grown from 60 employees, having about 1 million app downloads in 2013 to 2,000 employees globally with over 150 million app downloads currently.
“The company officially launched on June 23, 2013 as a startup to challenge injustice through transparency, fairness and innovative use of technology.
“We launched in Nigeria on April 2019 with Lagos but we have expanded to cities like Abuja, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Enugu and Benin.
“In 2022, we became the second most downloaded app in the ride-hailing sector.
“We are now in over 700 cities and 45 countries in the world and we plan on expanding to more areas, putting people at the centre of our solutions,” Timothy added. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
