SWIT chairperson urges women to develop leadership skills, break barriers

The National Chairperson of  the Society of Women in Taxation(SWIT), Mrs Bosede Ikhanoba, has called on women to develop their leadership skills as well as break barriers to attain greater heights in the nation.

Ikhanoba, made the call at the society’s 2023 Leadership and Team Building retreat and seminar themed “Professional women in the 21st Century:Breaking Barriers and Empowering Change “in Abuja .

She said the seminar is aimed at promoting capacity building and to provide all the participants with a forum to dialogue, strengthen knowledge and provide guidance and raise awareness on the theme.

“Taxation plays a critical role in nation building by unique men and women committed to mobilise resources and be the catalyst in the social contract implementation.

“Today, we are witnessing a growing movement of women and the untapped potential of women aimed to break down barriers and shatter glass ceilings .

“By inspiring women to step into leadership roles, we foster a more inclusive and equitable environment where diverse perspectives thrives, therefore ,women are playing and increasingly important role in decision making and leadership generally.

“They are bringing new perspectives and skills to the table to make policies and be fair and more equitable, when women leads ,everyone benefits .

Ikhanoba said that decades of study showed that ,when women lead ,it increases productivity , mass collaboration and inspires dedication and improves fairness.

She said that it was therefore ,the society’s aim to empower women to take their place in national development.

The Host of the event ,Mrs Biola Saliu ,4th Coordinator FCT ,Abuja SWIT ,said that the chapter is one of the 23 chapters under swit national

Saliu said that the programme was put together in fulfilment of the society’s mandate to it’s members and to the nation in general .

“We have made a commitment to continue to uphold the values and the CITN.

“The theme “Professional women in the 21st century :Breaking the Barriers and Empowering Change, was carefully chosen to address the issues around leadership.

” The presenters were carefully selected to ensure to imoact knowledge. ”

Saliu ,therefore, called on SWIT members to take advantage of the opportunity to grow and learn together.

She said that topics like breaking barriers and gaining edge in a world of opportunities, emotional intelligence, managing the workplace ,the home front ,strategies to strike a balance, mastering taxpromax for ease of paying tax ,health talks among others were carefully chosen to build their knowledge.

She said understanding that everyone has a role to play in the growth of an organisation was key and urged them to contribute their quote for sustainable development.

She called on members to be diligent, put on their best performance at all times ,do their best and give the necessary support to their leaders .

The Chairperson of the occasion, Hajia Kudirat Abdul-Hamid commended the SWIT for the initiative adding that the seminar was apt .

Abdul-Hamid called on the women to listen carefully in order to be well equipped to pull their weight in the professional league. (NAN)
