Good Governance Initiative (GGI), a civil society group, has described the recent military successes over Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in the North East, as encouraging and a welcome development.

The group made this known in a statement by its President, Mr Adeniyi Osho, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Osho said the recent acknowledgment by Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno, that no community in the state was still under the control of insurgents was a pointer to the fact that the military had achieved more successes.

He said the governor also acknowledged that the security situation in the state had improved by over 85 per cent.

“Similarly, the Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume said the issue of Boko Haram had come and gone.

“Also, another recent report confirmed a gradual restoration of peace in the popular Dikwa Night Market and the entire town sacked in 2014 and 2016 by Boko Haram insurgents,” he said.

Osho said the confirmation of victory over terrorists was a testimony that the sacrifices of the Armed Forces of Nigeria was not in vain.

He attributed the good news to the dedication of officers and men of the Armed Forces of Nigeria under the leadership of Gen. Christopher Musa.

“GGI expressed joy on the gradual restoration of peace in the popular Dikwa Night Market and the entire North-East and expressed confidence that with ongoing military operations, the people of the region will soon express total peace.

“We urged the Nigerian media to spread messages of hope, while building the confidence of troops engaged in operations across the country.

“At this time, patriotism is needed to make the victory of our troops over the insurgents total,” he added. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
