Off-cycle elections: Coalition scores military high on election security
By Sumaila Ogbaje
The Coalition for Good Governance and Security (CGGS) has commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria for its neutral role in the just concluded off-cycle election in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa States.
This is contained in a statement by the National Coordinator of CGGS, Mr Ishaku Aliyu, on Monday in Abuja
Aliyu said the military kept to the promise made by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, that the armed forces would remain neutral in all the states where elction took place.
He said that the noble role of the armed forces had ensured that the election was held with minimal security challenges and commended the defence chief for his avowed support in deepening democracy in the country.
According to CGGS, “We are aware of the stern warning by the CDS that criminal tendencies during the election will not be condoned. We can say the AFN kept to it’s promise.
“Our investigation across the 3 states where the off-cycle election was conducted revealed that our military performed excellently well.
“In spite of the attempt by some politicians to draw the military into what took place, we can give them credit for their neutrality.
“Once more, CGGS commends the CDS for this excellent outing,” the Coalition said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
