President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau has charged sports writers to always ensure balanced and objective reportage in the coverage of sports in the country.
Gusau made the call on Thursday in Abuja at the finals of the 2023 FCT SWAN 5-Aside football tournament, which climaxed the annual FCT SWAN week.
The NFF boss who was part of the array of dignitaries that graced the occasion, stressed the need for improved synergy between sports administrators and the media.
“I feel it’s important for me to be here with you because we’ll not say you should just report what we are doing, but we also need to come and watch what you people are doing on the other side.
“As I have always said I will always be part of you (sports writers) and we’ll always try and see how we can support you in whatever programmes you come up with.
“So I implore you to always be objective and balanced in your reportage,” he said.
Earlier, former Director General of the defunct National Sports Sports Commission (NSC), Alhassan Yakmut emphasised the power of the media in sports development.
He charged SWAN to be agenda setters in the scheme of sports development in the country.
“The media is very crucial in the development of sports, SWAN should continue set the agenda for sports development in the country,” he said.
Proprietor, Air Warriors Basketball Club of Abuja, Solademi Abdulmajid highlighted the need for all hands to be deck to develop sports in the country.
FCT Director of Sports, Lucas Istifanus in his remarks said the FCT sports council was working round the clock to reposition sports in the FCT.
