Soun assures of more investment in sports to boost Ogbomosoland’s economy

The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye, on Saturday assured of more investment in sports in Ogbomoso for a greater impact on the city’s economy.
The royal father gave the assurance while teeing off the maiden edition of Oba Afolabi Olaoye Golf Tournament on Saturday in Ogbomoso.
He had arrived at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club, venue of the tournament, with the Chairman of his official coronation’s Central Planning Committee, Prof. Adesola Adepoju, and traditional chiefs.
His entourage was received by the President of the club, Dr Akin Oladeji, and Captain of the club, Mr Pekun Olaleye, among others.
The traditional ruler and his entourage were first conducted round the club’s exhibition ground, before he later commissioned the Ogbomoso Recreation Club’s Golf Section.
Oba Olaoye commended the initiatives of the Ogbomoso Recreation Club and expressed his delight with the level of transformation at the club, promising to ensure more investment in sports.

He said: “We will make this an annual event to attract golfers from all over the world to Ogbomoso and to also have a great impact on the economy of the town.”
Oladeji, while addressing journalists after the inauguration, said the tournament was organised to mark the historical coronation of Oba Olaoye.
“We are ready to work with the traditional ruler to make Ogbomoso a hub of sports tourism with golf tournament as an attraction that will drive people down to the town,” he said.
