Yuletide: IPCR urges Nigerians to embrace peace, security consciousness
By Sarafina Christopher
As Nigerians join the rest of the world to celebrate Christmas, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has urged citizens to embrace peace and unity.
The institute gave the advice on Sunday, in a statement by the Director General of the institute, Dr Joseph Ochogwu.
Ochogwu stressed the need for citizens to understand that Christmas is about the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and should emulate his teachings which are anchored peaceful living.
According to him, peace, unity, and security have the capacity to break the vicious circle of underdevelopment.
“We, therefore, appeal to Nigerians to be ambassadors of peace anywhere they find themselves and also use this yuletide period to pray for the peace, unity, and progress of the nation.
“It is also important to remember that nation-building is the responsibility of all and, therefore, every Nigerian should rise up to the occasion to build a Nigeria of our dream.
“As an institute, we are aware of the enormous challenges bedeviling our country.
“Nevertheless, we should keep hope alive and continue to have faith that a new Nigeria will rise from the ashes of these challenges.
“Let our thoughts and actions be peaceful, tolerant, and receptive toward one another as this is the only organic means to change the dangerous narrative that has eaten deep into our social fabrics and national cohesion,”he said.
The director-general called on Nigerians to have a sober reflection, and reconnect with God in the spirit of the season “for the restoration of our dear country.”
He also further urged Nigerians to continue to support the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration and its Renewed Hope Agenda, by providing the right and timely information to the relevant agencies of government in order to assist them in the fight against violent crime.
