Mrs Caroline Adepoju, the Outgoing Comptroller-General (CG), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has charged officers and men of the service to remain dedicated and exhibit diligence in their service to the nation.
Adepoju gave the charge on Thursday in Abuja in her farewell speech at the pull out parade organised in her honour.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adepoju was appointed Acting CG on May 29, 2023 by President Tinubu, to replace Isah Jere, whose tenure expired on the same day.
In November 2023, Tinubu confirmed Adepoju’s appointment as the 18th substantive CG of the Service.
Adepoju said that her partnership and synergy with different talented, loyal, and resolute officers who had been and are still in the service and the public could never be taken for granted.
She described them as a formidable team of selfless and dutiful officers across all ranks, adding that they had contributed to the truly transformative achievements of the service in its 61 years of existence.
“I am grateful to God Almighty and I also express gratitude to you, Nigerians.
“I am grateful to President Bola Tinubu, because I happen to be the first appointee of this administration.
“I pray to God Almighty that this administration will also recognise the role played by the personnel of the service.
”To officers and men, I implore you to be dedicated, focus and diligent. I also want you to do everything you can to ensure that all the reforms that have been introduced to the service are implemented,” she said.
Adepoju noted that border security and management had become a priority on the agenda of the current administration, following thorough sustainability of efforts of past governments in the country.
”I am happy today that I am going to hand over an organisation that is well-polished with experienced staff that can compete with their contemporaries globally.
”I appreciate all staff of the NIS for your tireless efforts and support. I encourage you to extend the same tempo to my successor,” she urged.
The retired CG, who promised to be an ambassador of the NIS, said she would always be ready to assist whenever she was called on by the Service.
In his remarks, the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo applauded the outgoing CG for her performance and hardwork.
Tunji-Ojo said that the retired CG had demonstrated intelligence and brilliance in ensuring that the service carried out its mandate effectively and efficiently.
He urged the incoming CG to emulate the act and ensure that the service was known for good in keeping the border safe and secure for all. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
