We`ll prioritise your safety—Lagos CP assures corps members

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, says the Command has made adequate arrangements to properly protect National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state.

Adegoke said this at the closing ceremony of 2024 Batch A, Stream 1 NYSC orientation programme for corps members held on Wednesday at the Orientation Camp Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.

“We have special provisions for them and have spoken to our operatives in the Divisions and Area Commands that issues concerning corps members should be dealt with utmost priority.

“I can assure that if there is any issue that has to do with corps members, we take it speedily and make sure that the issues are resolved within the shortest possible time,” he said.

The commissioner, who described Lagos state as one of the peaceful states in the federation said strategies have been put in place to sustain a peaceful and crime free environment for all.

“We have many strategies in place and we have stated unfolding them, by the time we finish unfolding about 60 to 70 per cent of them, we would’ve gotten almost crime free Lagos“, he said.

Gov. Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu enjoined the corps members to embark on their service year bearing in mind the core principles of the programme, which he said was to foster national unity.

Sanwo-Olu was represented by Mr Sesan Ogundeko, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations.

He said they were expected to bring to bear, valuable lessons in discipline, perseverance and teamwork in their places of primary assignment.

“As you leave this camp, a path brimming with possibilities unfolds before you, you are now equipped with newfound skills, broadened perspective and unwavering resolve to make a positive impact.

“As you make a lasting contribution to the development of Lagos State and by extension our great nation.

“Lagos, a vibrant tapestry of culture, languages and traditions, will offer you a firsthand experience of immense strength that blossom from diversity.

“ You will actively engage with local communities, tackle challenges head-on and contribute to projects that hold true meaning,” he said.

Earlier, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, NYSC Coordinator, Lagos, enjoined the corps members to accept their postings in good fate and serve their fatherland with patriotism, dedication and diligence.

“We have been engaging your prospective employers on your welfare-related matter, through workshops and seminars, visits, quarterly monitoring and inspections.

“Do not be found wanting at your duty post, do not put up attitude that would be detrimental to our past efforts and advocacies in ensuring good living for you.

“I am glad that within these few days, the requisite skills to work for the nation and be patriotic towards it have been implanted in you,” she said.

She urged the corps members to take advantage of the National Health Insurance to access free medical care to take proper care of the their health.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
