My target is to generate N10b revenue monthly, says Kano revenue chairman

The Executive Chairman, Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Mr Sani Dambo, has said that the state was targeting N10 billion internally monthly.
Dambo said this at the 154th Meeting of the Joint Tax Board (JTB) on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said that the state generated about N2.6 billion in January, adding that the record for February would soon be ready.
“I left as executive chairman for about three years then the collection dropped.
“Now that I have resumed again, we are generating between N2 billion and N2.5 billion monthly.
“But for January 2024, we generated N2.6 billion and for February we are still reporting on it.
“My target in the near future is to generate about N5 billion per month.
“All things being equal, we can generate up to N10 billion potentially in a month,” he said.
Dambo said that Gov. Abba Kabir had inaugurated a committee on data quo tax.
He said that the office was working seriously to enhance revenue generation, adding that to do that, data base must be available.
“We had a comprehensive data base and what we need now is to continue to update it,” he said.
Dambo noted that one of the factors that enhance revenue was to increase data base, as it would help to expand tax rate.
He said that data base was very important in the system, adding that other states were also trying to update their database.
“Beyond that, they sometimes organise programmes to help enlighten the public about the importance of the registration of their obligations as citizens,” he said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
