By Yahaya Isah
The Mayors, a group of volunteers on traffic safety, has reaffirmed commitment to decongesting and controlling traffic within the FCT and some other cities in Nigeria.
The National Coordinator of the group, Dr Yusuf Suberu, made the commitment in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.
Suberu who is also the National Coordinator/FCT Squadron Leader, RTO/VIO Mayors, said that the group would continue to ensure free flow of traffic and observance of traffic rules and regulations to make roads in the country safer for all.
He added that the group has been educating road users and providing road traffic advocacy.
“It is through this that we contribute to the safety of lives which is the primary function of every government.
“We are also into training and retraining of law enforcement officers and road users on standard measures on road matters; we are like middlemen between the officers and the public,” he added.
The national coordinator, who is also the FCT Squadron Leader of the Mayors, said they have been working with the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services over the years.
He urged Nigerians to join the group to complement the work of traffic personnel across the country. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
