Nigeria@64: Adamawa youths celebrate Nigeria, lauds Tinubu initiatives
By Ibrahim Kado
Youths in Adamawa, under the aegis of “Concerned Youths for Unity”, on Tuesday walked through the streets of Yola, the state capital, to celebrate the nation’s 64th Independence anniversary.
The youths, in their thousands, sang solidarity songs as they moved, and lauded the renewed hope initiatives of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Mr Yakubu Umar-Girei, convener of the group, while speaking on why the youths organised the event, pointed out that no nation, including the most advanced democracies, is immune to the challenges of nationhood.
“Nigeria has had its fair share of such challenges and successes in the last six decades.
“The Tinubu administration inherited a lot of such challenges and is working so assiduously to address them,” he said.
He listed some of the successes of the Tinubu administration to include clearing of $5 billion outstanding foreign exchange obligations and significant increase in oil production to 1.61 million, from 1 million barrels per day.
“The administration has also established the student loan scheme and has made available N45.6 billion for the payments of the loans to indigent students.
“The Tinubu administration also established the consumer credit corporation with over N200 billion, and an allocation of additional N50 billion each for student loans and credit corporation.
“It also secured $620 million under the Digital and Creative Enterprises (IDiCE), and also launched the Skill-Up Artisans Programme (SUPA), the Nigerian Youth Academy (NIYA), and National Youth Talent Export Programme (NATEP),” he said.
Umar-Girei said the federal government had also extended financial support of over N570 billion to the 36 states which is expected to benefit no fewer than 600,000 nano-businesses, with an additional 400,000 on the pipeline.
He called on Nigerians to support the Tinubu administration as it is working round-the-clock to ensure the resurgence of national economy.
“Glossing through the positive reforms being instituted by the Tinubu administration, it is our fervent hope that the challenges currently faced by the common man will soon be history,” he said.
