Centre unveils book on LASU VC’s impact

The Centre For General Nigerian Studies (CGNS) of Lagos State University (LASU) has unveiled a book on the impact of the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, on the education sector.
The book entitled: “Chronicles of Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello” was unveiled on Tuesday at the CGNS.
The Director of the centre, Prof. Mubashiru Mohammed, said that the aim was to celebrate the vice-chancellor’s visionary and purposeful leadership.
He described the vice-chancellor as a woman and leader of inestimable value.
“She deserves to be celebrated at this time when she is marking her third anniversary in office,” he said.
Prof. Bidemi Lafiaji-Okuneye, Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University of Education, said that the book was a comprehensive and insightful portrayal of Olatunji-Bello’s life and career.
According to Lafiaji-Okuneye, who was the book reviewer, the 160-page book is an inspiring account of a woman who defied odds to rise to the pinnacle of her profession.
“The book is a testament to the power of hard work, determination and commitment to service.
“Her story serves as a beacon of hope for aspiring leaders, especially women, in academia and beyond.
“Readers will find inspiration in her story, which demonstrates that with vision, tenacity and grace, obstacles are surmountable,” she said.
Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, said that Olatunji-Bello’s administration had developed LASU.
Orelope-Adefulire, who was the Chairman of the occasion, said that the vice-chancellor had touched many lives.
“When I got the invitation, I knew I would come and celebrate my friend and sister,” she said.
Mr Tolani Sule, Commissioner of Tertiary Education, Lagos State, said that Olatunji-Bello had made a strong mark in the Nigerian university system.
Sule, represented by Mr Abayomi Kasali, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, applauded the leadership qualities of Olatunji-Bello and the peaceful environment in LASU.
“LASU has been consistently recognised through creativity, management solutions, partnerships and innovations,” he said.
In her response, Olatunji-Bello said that the book was a call for her to do more, give more and serve more.
“Thank you for believing in me, thank you for accepting me and for being there for me.
“Thank you for committing your resources to buy this book despite the challenging time we are in.
“I lack the words to adequately convey the extent of my happiness at the initiative to write this book and launch it on my behalf,” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr David Sunmoni, Chairman, Governing Council of LASU, was among the dignitaries at the event. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
