Gov. Umar Namadi of Jigawa says his administration recruited and empowered 120,000 youths in the last 15 months.
He stated this at the inauguration of a two-day retreat for Jigawa State Executive Council members, on Wednesday in Gombe.
The theme of the workshop is: “Ascending the Peak: Achieving Greater Jigawa through Innovation and Transformative Leadership.”
Namadi said the state government invested a lot in human capital development under its 12-point Agenda, aimed at safeguarding the security and welfare of the people.
He said the state also prioritised and made significant progress in education, health, water and sanitation, infrastructure, among others.
“The success stories of most of our youths employment and empowerment programmes across various sectors is a testimony of our progress.
“No less than 120,000 of our teeming youth were gainfully employed or empowered to be productive members of our society contributing to the growth of our economy.
“These include the various interventions in the agricultural sector, small and micro enterprises, women empowerment, ICT, and our J-Recruitments in the education and health sectors, amongst others,” he said.
The government, he said, aimed at guaranteeing long term success in harnessing and channelling the energy of the youths to more productive endeavours.
He emphasised the need for a campaign to promote social reorientation, community engagement and participatory governance where youths were not only the focus but also the driving force.
The governor said the retreat was organised to foster synergy and inter-sectorial collaboration in the implementation of his administration’s programmes towards attaining its transformation programmes.
He noted that such collaboration would enable the government to achieve more, increase productivity and deliver better outcomes in the implementation of its policies and programmes.
“This retreat is meant to bolster our sense of commitment to duty and accountability, sensitise and reorient our sense of direction towards greater synergy.
“It will expose us to new perspectives on the concepts of innovation, transformation and leadership being critical elements for success in our journey of transformational development for greater Jigawa,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
