Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, has encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful in spite of the hardships faced in the country.
In his Easter message, titled “Never Lose Hope”, Ezeokafor highlighted that the suffering, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ brought hope to humanity.
“Our blessed father, Pope Francis, declared this year as the Jubilee Year of Hope. Without hope, life becomes very difficult.
“I admonish every Christian and indeed every Nigerian not to lose hope in this difficult time,” he said.
Ezeokafor described Easter as the greatest feast of the Church, constantly reminding Christians of the need to hope in Christ’s finished work on the cross, which guarantees eternal salvation.
He emphasised that Christians must share in the resurrection of Jesus Christ by living according to His will to enjoy heaven in the end.
The Bishop also urged political leaders to embrace servant leadership, following Christ’s example of humility, and encouraged parents to guide their children in making the right choices.
He expressed concern over the rise of youths chasing quick, unearned wealth, leading to harmful practices such as “yahoo,” kidnapping, and money-making rituals.
He also lamented the impact of mobile phones and digital devices on family relationships and children’s exposure to harmful content.
Ezeokafor lauded Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for taking action against fake pastors and native doctors misleading the youth in Anambra.
On the upcoming governorship elections, he urged political figures to play by the rules and encouraged citizens to vote wisely, believing that every vote counts.
The Bishop also called on the Federal Government to prioritise addressing the growing insecurity across the nation. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
