The Oyo State Government has subsidised prices of ram, rice and vegetable oil for civil servants in the state, in its effort to bring succour to Muslim workers.

The Chairman, Oyo State Agricultural Credit Corporation, Sheihk Taofeek Akeugbagold made this known on Monday in Ibadan during the distribution of the items to some of the beneficiaries.

According to him, no fewer than 2,500 civil servants will benefit from the government gesture.

Akeugbagold said that the state government designed the programme to bring succour to civil servants in view of the economic realities in the country.

He explained that the distribution of the commodities, which will end on June 4, would be sustained by Gov. Seyi Makinde-led government.

Akeugbagold said that repayment for the subsidised items would be deducted in three instalments from their salaries, beginning from August.

Some of the beneficiaries lauded the state government’s gesture, describing the initiative as a wise decision.

A civil servant from the State Ministry of Education, Mr Muideen Ogundele, said the gesture was a big relief for workers who could not afford the high cost of ram in the open market.

Also, Mr Yekeen Taiwo and Alhaja Balkis Omilowo, of the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority, and the Teaching Service Commission, respectively, said the programme had made it seamless for civil servants to get ram at affordable price. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
