Lagos State Commissioner for Local Government Service Commission, Mr Ahmed Seriki, has facilitated the people of Epe on the celebration of this year’s Ojude Oba Festival.

Seriki extended his greetings in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Epe.

The commissioner, who commended the rich cultural heritage and communal harmony associated with the festival, described it as a critical symbol of unity and tradition in Lagos State.

He lauded the custodians of culture in Epe for preserving the age-old customs that had continued to foster peace, identity and pride among the people of Epe.

Seriki emphasised the importance of cultural festivals like Ojude Oba in strengthening inter-generational bonds and promoting tourism in the state.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting cultural events that reflected the diverse traditions of the state.

According to him, such gatherings serve as platforms for economic growth, social interaction and cultural awareness.

The Commissioner also praised Oba Kamorudeen Animashahun, the Oloja of Epeland, for his pivotal role in preserving the town’s customs and promoting unity among indigenes and residents.

He described the festival as a celebration of both cultural pride and the collective aspirations of Epe people.

Seriki further stated that Ojude Oba provided an avenue for the sons and daughters of Epe, both at home and in the diaspora, to reconnect with their roots to celebrate their heritage and contribute to its socio-economic development.

He encouraged other communities across the state to emulate Epe people’s dedication to preserving and showcasing their cultural identities.
