Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, has credited achievements in the Nigerian civil service to policy support, strategic direction, and encouragement from President Bola Tinubu.
Walson-Jack made the remarks on Sunday at a thanksgiving service to commemorate the 2025 Civil Service Week, at the Family Worship Centre, Wuye, Abuja.
“We are grateful to God for His grace, and especially thankful to President Bola Tinubu, whose confidence in civil service reform efforts has provided us with the policy backing and encouragement needed to move forward,” she said.
The HCSF also acknowledged the support of development partners both within and outside the country, noting their contributions through funding, capacity building, and technical assistance.
According to her, these partnerships remind us that our efforts are recognised beyond our borders, and that reforming the Nigerian civil service is a shared mission.
Walson-Jack, while emphasising the importance of the thanksgiving service, said it was a moment of reflection and renewed commitment to national service.
“As we gather in God’s presence, we acknowledge His unwavering faithfulness and divine guidance in our lives and in our service to Nigeria,” she said.
She also commended the dedication of civil servants, including permanent secretaries, directors, and staff, for their contributions to government efficiency and reform implementation over the past year.
She expressed appreciation to the Family Worship Centre for hosting the annual thanksgiving event and called on the Church and the wider Christian community to continue to pray for the success of ongoing civil service transformation efforts.
In her admonition, the Senior Pastor of the Church, Mrs Sarah Omakwu, urged civil servants to uphold integrity and commit to excellence in their duties.
Quoting from Luke 3:14, Omakwu warned against bribery and corruption, stressing the need for accountability and righteousness in public service.
“Let files not get lost; let people not pay before they receive services; be incorruptible,” she advised.
She encouraged civil servants to continue training, apply their knowledge, and work efficiently to help rescue Nigeria from current challenges.
The Civil Service Week officially commenced on Friday with various activities lined up to celebrate and reflect on the role of the civil service in national development.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that prayers were offered to God to show Nigeria mercy as the country continues to grapple with insecurity and incessant killings across the country.
NAN also reports that the gathering attracted the presence of both serving and retired permanent secretaries, directors, senior civil servants, among others. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
