N/Delta: GbaramatuVoice rallies dialogue on resource control, environmental Justice
By Muhyideen Jimoh
GbaramatuVoice, a prominent media platform in the Niger Delta, has underscored the need for a national dialogue on resource control, environmental justice, and media’s strategic role in the region.
The Publisher and CEO, Mr Jacob Abai, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said that as part of activities to celebrate the outlet’s 10th anniversary, a public lecture on ”Gaps and Silences in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Economy: Appraisal of Resource Control, Security and Media Dynamics,” would be held.
Abai explained that the lecture aims to spark national conversations on resource control, environmental justice, security and the medial role in the Niger Delta region.
He said that the 10th year anniversary schedule for Aug. 27 and 28 would also feature a Niger Delta Night of Honours.
”The two-day event will convene national leaders, policymakers, IOCs, security experts, diplomats academics, media professionals, youth leaders, and civil society stakeholders.
”10 years of reporting from the creeks and communities of the Niger Delta has taught us that the real stories of oil, conflict, justice and survival are often buried beneath national headlines.
”The lecture will be a chance to bring those silences to the fore,” he said.
Abai further emphasised that the lecture would seek to deepen conversations on unresolved issues of equity, national unity, and the media’s power to influence development in the Niger Delta.
GbaramatuVoice, established in 2015, has grown into a pan-Niger Delta media organisation with presence in print, digital, and television broadcasting.
Driven by advocacy, identity, and developmental storytelling, the platform tries to bridge the gap between oil-rich communities and the wider world.
