Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo has mourned the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday in London, England, describing him as a patriot and a disciplined leader.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Fred Itua, the governor said Buhari was a man of integrity who devoted his life to the service of Nigeria.
“It is with a heavy heart that we received the news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“His Excellency was a man of great character whose anti-corruption drive and efforts at national security greatly shaped Nigeria’s modern history and democratic journey.
“He served Nigeria with uncommon zeal and selflessness, leaving behind a legacy of probity, patriotism, and national service that will never be forgotten,” he said.
Okpebholo noted Buhari’s contributions to national growth, especially his achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, and in leading the determined fight against insurgency and terrorism across Nigeria.
“Even after leaving office, Buhari remained a respected elder statesman, always providing guidance and wisdom whenever the nation called on him for his leadership and experience.
“His deep love for Nigeria was evident in every decision he made, and in every bold, principled action he took for the country’s future,” Okpebholo added.
The governor offered condolences to the Buhari family, Katsina State, and all Nigerians mourning the national loss, urging strength and unity in this period of grief.
He prayed for Buhari’s soul to find eternal peace and that his loved ones be granted the strength and courage to bear this great national loss.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” Okpebholo prayed. (NAN)
