The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in a London clinic on Sunday at the age of 82, have arrived in Katsina for burial at his hometown, Daura.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the aircraft conveying Buhari’s body, accompanied by Vice-President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, touched the ground by 1:50p.m. at Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport, Katsina.
On arrival at the airport, the body was received by President Bola Tinubu, Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina, ministers, governors, captains of industries, National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, presidential aides and members of Katsina State Executive Council.
Others are the former President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou, Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, Speaker, House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, Service Chiefs, former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai and others.
NAN reports that the Federal Government declared Tuesday (today) a public holiday in honour of the late President.
The holiday comes as part of the ongoing seven-day national mourning period earlier announced by President Tinubu to pay tribute to Buhari’s life and legacy. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
