Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti has installed the new Owa of Ayebode-Ekiti, Oba Olusola Omolayo.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oyebanji, who installed the new Oba on Tuesday called on the traditional ruler to partner with the state government to ramp up security and development at the grassroots.
He said that making the lives of the locals flourish, by providing adequate security for them to perform their statutory means of livelihoods unhindered, remained the cardinal focus of his government.
He tasked the traditional ruler to aggressively pursue unity and brotherhood in the town, charging him to reach out to other contenders for the coveted seat and work with them with love and one spirit.
Oyebanji, represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye, said empowering the citizens, making them economically productive and functional wherever they live, remained the best way to banish poverty among the rural dwellers.
“I want you to cooperate with your traditional ruler, rally round him, so that your town can witness the expected peace, unity and development during his reign.
“I wish the new traditional ruler long life and prosperous reign on the throne of his forebears”, Oyebanji said.
The governor appealed to the traditional ruler to rally his people to solidly back all the policies and programmes being initiated by this administration, especially the ones devised to propel local economy across the state.
He promised not to deviate from inclusive governance he had entrenched into the state’s body polity to ensure that no group was alienated from governance.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Omolayo, promised to partner with Gov. Oyebanji to fast-track development in the town and make the community the epicentre of unity.
Omolayo pledged unalloyed commitment to rekindle the hope and aspirations of his people, by working with all well-meaning indigenes to promote the culture, customs and traditions of the community.
The new Oba said his first assignment would be to unite the community, by enlisting the support of the elite and other subjects to ensure inclusivity in his traditional ruling leadership.
NAN reports that the Owa stool became vacant sequel to the demise of Oba Augustine Famoroti, who hailed from Famoroti Ruling House, on September 24, 2022.
The new traditional ruler is from Aketepe royal dynasty of Ayebode-Ekiti. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
