Samuel Olatunji, President of the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation, says the body is working towards the inclusion of the sport in the National Sports Festival (NSF) scheduled to take place in Enugu in 2026.
Olatunji made the disclosure on Saturday, on the sidelines of the African Armwrestling Championship in Abuja.
“The performance of Nigerian athletes in this championship is a significant improvement over previous years, and I’m very proud.
“We’ve seen notable progress in the sport and have already initiated discussions with the National Sports Commission (NSC) to include armwrestling in the upcoming festival.
“We are also working to reintegrate the sport into the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA), which remains a vital platform for discovering new talents,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that over 20 countries are participating in the two-day championship, which concludes today in Abuja. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
