The President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs Oghogho Musa, says DEPOWA School is raising future leaders through a blend of academic excellence, moral discipline and innovation.

The wife of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, stated this on Thursday at the 2025 Speech and Prize-Giving Day of DEPOWA Daycare, Nursery, Primary and Secondary School in Abuja.

She said the event marked a celebration of hard work, creativity and character, with graduations for different arms of the school already held earlier in the month.

“This is not just a ceremony, it is a reflection of what we stand for; commitment to excellence, values, and holistic education,” she said.

Highlighting strides recorded under her two-year leadership the wife of the CDS said the school had witnessed major infrastructure and welfare upgrades.

According to her, these include the repainting of school blocks, installation of a 100 KVA generator, new science laboratory equipment, new computers, and a fully-equipped culinary arts studio.

“The school has also improved staff welfare, conducted medical screenings for students and female staff, and enhanced learning tools across the board.”

She lauded teachers for their passion and sacrifice, and urged students to keep aiming high.

“To our students, whether you received an award or not, you are all champions. Dream big and go for gold,” she said.

She also expressed gratitude to the wife of the President, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, for her guidance and to the CDS for his unwavering support for DEPOWA activities.

The Acting Commandant of DEPOWA School, Maj. Samuel Buzugbe, in his remarks, called on the graduating students to hold firmly to moral values, embrace discipline, and remain focused on their goals as they prepare to take on new challenges.

Buzugbe said the school had, during the 2024/2025 academic year, equipped its learners with critical thinking, leadership values and life skills through rigorous academic and extracurricular activities.

“The Class of 2025 consists of individuals from diverse backgrounds, shaped by a shared journey of excellence. They are now set to explore new heights and conquer fresh academic terrain,” he said.

The commandant advised students to shun all vices and likened their next life phase to a military operation that required precision, discipline, and patience.

He urged students to be guided by the values they’ve acquired both at home and in school, reminding them that every ending marked the beginning of another phase.

Buzugbe appreciated parents for trusting the school with the academic and moral grooming of their children, saying DEPOWA remains committed to delivering quality education in a conducive and well-resourced environment.

He thanked the President of DEPOWA for her unending support and investment in school development, noting the visible transformation under her leadership.

In her keynote lecture, Dr Lilian Iwu, advised the students to surround themselves with mentors, good friends, or even classmates that would help them to combine resilience and purpose.

“Go into the world not with fear, but with faith. Be bold enough to dream, brave enough to fail, and resilient enough to rise again.

“You are not just graduates. You are survivors. You are warriors. You are dreamers. And above all, you are resilient,” she said. (NAN)
