The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has commended Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo for releasing its members seven months salaries withheld during the administration of Adams Oshiomhole.
In a letter of appreciation to the governor on Thursday in Benin, JUSUNโs National President, Marwan Mustapha Adamu, described the move as a demonstration of empathy and fairness.
Adamu said the move had brought immense relief to the affected workers.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the judiciary workersโ salaries in Edo were withheld after several appeals by the governor to the workers to call off their seven months old strike in 2015.
The workers had joined a nationwide strike by JUSUN to press for the autonomy of the judiciary.
Adamu noted that the gesture had not only brought great relief to its members but had also rekindled their trust and confidence in the state governmentโs commitment to workersโ welfare.
โThe release of the withheld salaries is expected to have a positive impact on the workers and the state as a whole.
โThe governorโs action represents a deliberate effort to prioritise the well-being of judiciary workers and restore faith in government institutions.
โThe move is also expected to strengthen industrial harmony and enhance service delivery in the judiciary,โ he said.
He assured Okpebholo of JUSUNโs loyalty and continued support for his administrationโs ideals and reforms.
The union noted that the governorโs action demonstrated responsiveness and quality that would continue to inspire greater dedication and productivity in service delivery. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
