Dr Jobson Ewalefoh, Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, has inaugurated a non-governmental organisation focused on improving the quality of education in underserved communities.
Ewalefoh unveiled the NGO called Jobson Ewalefoh Foundation at a dinner to celebrate his 50th birthday anniversary in Abuja.
He said education should be both qualitative and accessible to all, reflecting that despite being from a humble background, access to education has transformed his life.
“The primary goal of the foundation is to nurture children to become transformational leaders via education.
“We are not looking for donors but partners who will share in our vision and help adopt, train, and mentor children to greatness.
“Nigeria has to be great, and it will only be great when we come together to contribute our quota. We need to reduce the out-of-school children gap in the country.”
He said that the foundation would be run by a board of trustees as he would not be directly involved in its activities due to his political appointment.
He added that the objectives of the NGO included providing learning materials, mentorship, and research funding, among others.
Prof. Christopher Isike, lecturer at the University of Pretoria, and a friend of Ewalefoh, said quality education is key to transforming one’s fortune and the developmental fortune of society.
He pledged to provide fully funded scholarships to beneficiaries of the foundation at the University of Pretoria and the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
The Governor of Cross River, Sen. Bassey Otu, a guest at the event, commended Ewalefoh’s commitment to service and for positively impacting lives.
“He is a sound professional. If we have many Nigerians like him, Nigeria will go places.
“I am here to give honour to whom honour is due, not minding the age.”
Also, the Governor of Ondo State, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, commended Ewalefoh for investing in education, describing the sector as one of the critical areas of human development.
Represented by his Deputy, Mr Olayide Adelami, he emphasized the importance of education to societal development.
“Education is very impactful; when you take education to a community, you bring light to that community because you have exposed the children to a world of limitless opportunities,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
