By Chiazo Ogbolu
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that every Wednesday will now be set aside for maintenance on the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS).
It also said passenger operations on the corridor will resume on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
The Chief Public Relations Officer, NRC, Mr Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Lagos.
He said commercial operations would restart after the successful completion of all safety, technical, and operational checks.
According to him, the step reflects NRC’s commitment to providing smooth, reliable, and secure train services for passengers.
Unyimadu recalled that after the Aug. 26 incident, 530 out of 583 passengers on board were contacted by phone, with 512 refunded.
He added that all 22 injured passengers were reached, many visited by NRC’s medical team, and would enjoy one free ride weekly until Dec. 31.
“All 618 people on board during the Aug. 26 accident will be entitled to one free ride before Dec. 31,” he said.
The AKTS timetable includes Abuja–Kaduna, IDU: 8.45 a.m., Kubwa: 9.05 a.m., Rigassa: 12.42 p.m. (Arrival).
Kaduna–Abuja schedule is Rigassa: 2.30 p.m., Kubwa: 6.02 p.m., IDU: 6.23 p.m. (Arrival).
Unyimadu appreciated passengers’ patience during the suspension, reaffirming NRC’s commitment to safe, reliable, affordable, and customer-friendly train services nationwide. (NAN)
