Ambience of Hope Foundation (AHEF) has distributed items worth over N7million to nursing mothers, pregnant women and others in ECWA Comprehensive Medical Centre, Customs Hospital and Karu environs in the FCT.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that items distributed by AHEF include baby wardrobe, baby bath, diaper, toiletries, wrappers, detergent, and palliatives among others.
Amb. Alexandra Olusola-Olukomo, National President, AHEF, said the initiative tagged “Mother-Baby Maternity Empowerment” was part of the foundation’s activities to commemorate its fifth year anniversary of empowerment, touching lives and affecting humanity.
Olusola-Olukomo said that she remembered the pains of motherhood, and in collaboration with other NGOs, deemed it necessary to give back to the society by putting smiles on the faces of mothers, pregnant women and the girl-child.
“This foundation came on board basically because of the challenge I had seeking for the blessings of the womb, carrying pregnancy for 52 months against the usual nine months after three miscarriages.
“When I later gave birth to the baby I had the calling to affect mothers, the girl-child and humanity in general.
“Today, we decided to deviate from the usual palliative distribution because that is what we having been doing in previous years to empowering the girl-child.
“We also decided to empower pregnant women, children born today, as well as distribute menstrual fecal kits to teenagers of menstrual age,” she said.
Olusola-Olukomo, who frowned at the poor condition of the maternity wards visited, urged the government to come to the aid of pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young children by renovating the ward.
She urged other NGOs to impact the vulnerable in the society no matter how little, adding that it was not how much, but the heart behind the charity.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Judith Matthew, who received baby wardrobe, baby bath, detergent and other items, said she was dumbfounded over the surprise gifts.
“Today is like Christmas to me because I did not expect this. My husband and I decided to take a walk, and on our way we were embarrassed with this huge package. This is really commendable.
Her husband, Mr Paul Matthew, appreciated the foundation for the kind gesture and surprise to his family.
Similarly, Mrs Veronica Oluwafemi, who gave birth on Oct. 13 the day commemorating the establishment of the foundation, also appreciated AHEF and God for the gift and cash received.
Also, Mr Williams Oluwafemi, the husband, thanked the organisation and further urged AHEF to sustain the humanitarian services.
Oluwafemi prayed God to reward the foundation abundantly.
Mr David Cocobassey, General Manager, AHEF, said he was excited impacting people as humanity was about giving back to the society.
In the same vein, Samson Aruwa, General Comptroller, Government Complementing Partnership, said that the essence of celebrating with pregnant women, nursing mothers and newborns was to thank God for years of sustenance. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
