Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), Lagos State Chapter, says it is gearing up to explore fresh governance models that reflect the changing realities of today’s business environment.
Chairperson of the chapter, Ms Efosa Ewere, said this at a news conference on Wednesday in Lagos while announcing the institute’s forthcoming annual summit scheduled for Oct. 30.
Ewere said the theme of the conference, “Governance Redefined in a Business Environment: A Continuum or New Paradigms”, was inspired by ongoing disruptions transforming corporate governance in Nigeria and beyond.
According to her, these disruptions include emerging regulatory frameworks, increasing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) demands, and rapid technological advancements such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).
She said the event would provide governance professionals a platform for robust discourse on how to navigate these shifts while managing stakeholder expectations.
“With the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, governance practice in Nigeria has witnessed rapid transformation.
“These changes, alongside sustainability reporting requirements and regulatory expectations from bodies like the Financial Reporting Council, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), demand that professionals rethink traditional governance models.
“The forum will enable participants to examine whether to maintain existing structures or adopt new governance models that reflect evolving realities,” she said.
Ewere said the keynote address would be delivered by Prof. Yinka Omorogbe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), while the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dayo Mobereola, would serve as chairperson of the summit.
She noted that discussions at the event would culminate in a communiqué aimed at strengthening governance culture across sectors and improving societal outcomes.
“Every institution or business, no matter how small, should adopt a corporate governance framework.
“Those that have done so have achieved better operational results. When businesses thrive, the economy and society benefit as well,” she said.
Ewere added that the summit aligns with ICSAN’s commitment to promoting ethical leadership, transparency, and accountability in both private and public institutions. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
