The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), FCT Command, has partnered with Ocean Wealth Homes Limited to develop a housing estate aimed at improving accommodation and welfare for its officers.

The Controller General of NCoS, Sylvester Nwakuche, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja during the groundbreaking ceremony of the estate.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the housing project is sited beside the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing Phase 2, along Chukuku–Kuje Road.

Nwakuche, represented by Assistant Controller General (ACG) Olatunbosun Ajibogun, said the cost of the units had been negotiated in line with the financial strength of officers.

Ajibogun urged personnel of the service to take advantage of the initiative to secure affordable housing within the FCT.

“We are committed to ensuring that officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service live in decent and dignified housing.

“This project is a clear demonstration of our resolve to improve the welfare and living standards of our personnel.

“We have worked closely with the developers to negotiate prices that reflect the financial realities of our officers. Our goal is to make homeownership attainable, not a luxury beyond reach,” he said.

Speaking, the Comptroller of NCoS FCT Command, Christopher Jen, commended the initiative of the NCoS to secure partnership to fill the gap in housing deficit as well as boost the working condition of public servants within the FCT.

He said “this initiative is a commendable step toward addressing the housing deficit among our officers.

“By securing this strategic partnership, the Service has shown commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of public servants within the FCT”.

Mr Yahaya Usman, Managing Director of Ocean Wealth Homes Limited, stated that the estate’s location was selected following a rigorous evaluation process designed to prioritise officers’ welfare and operational needs.

According to him, convenience, security, and easy accessibility were key considerations, ensuring that officers and their families benefit from a safe and well-planned residential community.

“Our team carried out a thorough assessment before choosing this site.

“We wanted a location that reflects the dignity of the uniform and supports the unique needs of correctional officers.

“This estate is the result of careful planning and deliberate decision-making that will allow officers to rest, recharge and build meaningful family life close to essential services and road networks.”

Usman lauded the leadership of the NCoS and the FCT Command for taking bold steps to address the housing needs of its personnel.

He said it showed commitment of the service to improving officers’ welfare, describing the initiative as a forward-thinking move that reflected genuine concern for staff well-being.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of land allocation papers to subscribers of the housing estate project. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
