Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery renovates schools in Niger

The Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery on Friday inaugurated  the renovated and furnished Vulcan Nursery and Primary School in Kontagora Cantonment in Niger.

The Commander, Corps of Artillery, Maj.-Gen. Zakari Abubakar, said the school was founded in 1995 by the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, Corps of Artillery Chapter, with few pupils and three teachers.

Abubakar said the school had grown to 415 pupils and 23 staff members, adding that the renovation was made possible through the efforts of the corps and other stakeholders.

He said that the gesture was part of the corps commitment to providing quality education for the children of military personnel.

“The welfare of troops and their families is of importance, as it directly impacts their morale, productivity and overall well-being,” he said.

Abubakar thanked his wife, Hajiya Maryam Abubakar, who conceived the idea of renovating the school.

He also thanked all those who contributed to the project, including Lt..- Col. Tasunda Abdullahi, Commanding Officer, Nigerian Army Training Center Engineer Regiment and the artisans, who worked tirelessly to complete the project.

He urged the teachers to maintain the infrastructure and teach the pupils with passion and advised the pupils to learn with curiosity and respect their teachers.

He encouraged parents to regularly pay their wards school fees and provide the necessary learning materials for their children.

Mrs Fumilayo Adeyemi, Head Mistress of the school, expressed gratitude to the commander and the corps of artillery for the renovation.

She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to God and those that had made the renewed learning environment possible.
