Mrs Samiat Bada, Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has vowed to transform the community into a model of effective grassroots governance.

Bada made this commitment during a ceremony, with the theme: “Renewed Hope at the Grassroots”, marking her first 100 days in office for her second term, on Tuesday.

The Chairman noted that her administration was focused on impactful projects, such as the ‘Monthly Renewed Hope Cash Support Programme’, offering ₦100,000 to 500 residents.

She added that plans had been concluded to establish a modern fire station, a recreational centre, a low-cost housing scheme and a new palace for the Onikosi of Ikosi.

“All our projects align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus policy, which promote inclusion, technology and mobility,” she said.

Bada pledged to transform the Mile 12 Market into a modern commercial hub that provides dignity and opportunity for all traders.

“We want to create spaces that are clean, structured and supportive of business growth,” she said.

She assured traders that the next phase of Mile 12 Market development would include cold storage, warehouse space and improved waste management systems to protect perishable goods.

“We are introducing mini waste-collection trucks, called ‘Keke Mayoress’, to serve areas where LAWMA trucks cannot reach.

“Cleanliness and sustainability are key to our progress,” she said.

According to her, the Mile 12 Market redevelopment complements other ongoing works in the LCDA, including the rehabilitation of key roads in Olowora, Ikosi and Unilag Estate.

She explained that the project, along with several others executed in the council, was financed through statutory allocations from the Federal and Lagos State governments.

She added that the 105-bedded Sen. Oluremi Tinubu Primary Healthcare Centre in Ikosi, and the new roads linking communities and markets, symbolised her government’s drive to bring development closer to the people.

Bada expressed gratitude to residents, traditional rulers, and members of staff of the council for their support, noting that her administration’s achievements demonstrate the impact of collaborative effort.

“Together, we will keep renewing hope and building a future that works for everyone,” she said.

Speaking, Chairman, Mile 12 Traders Association, Alhaji Ganiyu Shittu, commended the chairman for her responsiveness and urged continuous partnership with traders to maintain standards.

“Mile 12 is one of the busiest markets in Lagos. The transformation here is commendable.

“We just need to keep improving hygiene and provide more storage spaces,” he said.

Rev. Johnson Omotosho, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ikosi-Isheri Chapter, praised Bada for delivering four major road projects in his estate, describing her as a leader who listens and swiftly translates concerns into action.

Similarly, Alhaji Musbau Shittu, Chairman of the League of Imams in Ikosi-Isheri, hailed Bada for prioritising healthcare and youth empowerment. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
